Blog Phase III: Comprehensive Reflection

  • Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
    1. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.- For this they would use kidspiration to be creative in any and every way.
    2. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.-For this I would use the internet for students to research and write papers to display knowledge.
    3. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.-For this I would allow collaboration through google drive this would allow for them to use technology and resources.
    4. model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.-For this I would use glogster so they can visually engage and show other their work and thinking process.

  • Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
    1. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.-For this I would have student research on what this is and have them make a powerpoint on each area.
    2. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.- For this I would allow students multiple resources or tools for all assignments.
    3. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.-For this I would show students examples of how to do this and why it is important by allowing them to work through my glogster.
    4. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools.-For this I would have students research other cultures and how much assess they have to technology.

Lesson 2 Phase 2 Post 3

  1. Assessment of Learning (InTask Standard # 6): Refer to Assessing Student Learning
    • I only had one artifact because my other students did not follow directions.
    • The students did great and it showed a higher level of knowledge as well as creativity.

Lesson 2 Phase 2 Post 2

  1. Mechanics:
    • I used the smart board to introduce centers and how they work. Students used internet to do centers and kidspiration to complete their fraction stories.
    • Smartboard was used for about 5 minutes and internet for 30 minutes while kidspiration was used for the remained of the time.
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame because of the multiple uses of technology students used as well as what was required of them with their fraction stories.

Lesson 2 Phase 2 Post 1

  1. Instructional Decisions/Teaching (InTask Standard # 9): Discuss the implementation process and describe
    •  The things that when well were the stories them selves that the students produced however, the center sites didn't go as well because one of them were down at the beginning of the center time.
    • These were very well aligned with standards and helped build knowledge towards the finished products which was the main purpose of the centers.
    • I had to make changes to centers because of the one that wasn't working as well as finished works because some students were late.

Lesson
Reflection
This lesson and assessment align together perfectly with the standards and objectives because when planning my lesson I double checked for alignment. This is very important because is you have a meaning less assessment then you are not doing any justice for your children. This assessment demonstrates that students Have successfully learned the content because this was a student product lesson. This is very important to do because it shows authentic learning. This also shows higher order thinking because you can see how the students are learning and their process. The individual students needs were met because the the lesson was very individualized as well as the products they produced. Overall it was a good lesson and the assessment was very unknown.

Post 2 Lesson 1

Lesson
Reflection

I used these methods because of the ages of my students. I want to keep students engaged and wanting to learn. I think keeping in mind students and their ages is the most important part of planning. Overall students are the most important part of the learning equation.

My instructional methods are aligned with my best practices because I know my students best as well as myself. I'm keeping students engaged by offering multiple learning opportunities and by offering more difficult things for gifted students. As well as offering options for my students with learning disabilities.

The technologies I use is to engage and allow for my students to learning in a fun environment. This also helps students enjoy what they are doing and want to complete assignments. Overall this is about the students and them learning in this environment.

Lesson 2 Post 1 Phase 1

Lesson two

Reflect on:
Assessing Prior Knowledge: (Discuss the following for this lesson)
  • What do the students need to know prior to the lesson? Students need to know about fractions which this would happen in the week this lesson is taught. This lesson would most likely be happening at the end of the week.
  • How will prior knowledge and experience be assessed? These will be assessed by a discussion at circle before and after reading the book.
  • How will you use this information in the planning process? I will lengthen or shorten the centers based on prior knowledge. If students seem less knowledgeable I will lengthen the centers.
Planning Instruction: (Discuss the following for this lesson)
  • Why should the content of this lesson be taught at this grade level? Because they need all the prior knowledge of numbers to understand fractions. Also students don't begin to understand this till numbers really begin to click in their brains.
  • How do the objectives that you have for the lesson align with the standards? They align perfectly because I have made sure to connect the standards to my objectives.
  • When will the lesson be taught in the course of the school year? Why? Fractions will come after multiplication and dividing because you need to know how and why fractions are used.

Phase 2 Lesson 1 Post 3

Alex's Sample Work

Ceara's Sample Work
All students completed the lesson and works with in the required accuracy. However, some of them went above and beyond what was needed and some did the minimum. This was to be expected based on achievement levels. I think the lesson went very well and did exactly what it was suppose to do. That was to introduce students to the whole graphing process from beginning to end. My responses from my students support this exactly. They loved it and think is went very well.

Phase 2 Lesson 1 Post 2

Technologies used for teaching were none for the teacher however for the students I used word, the internet, and kidspiration. These were fun for the students and produced nice students works for me to look at. All technologies were used by students individually. My lesson ran a few minutes too short because I wrote my lesson for third graders and my students preformed task like college students meaning they had the prior knowledge to complete task quickly. If the students would have been third graders it would be perfect for the time allotted.

Phase 2 of Lesson 1 Post 1

The implementation over all went really well. However something that didn't go so well was the use of kidsperation. I think this is because I myself didn't know how to use the program very well. This being said if I would have known how to use the program more fluently then my sample students would have been able to use it easier. My lesson was very well aligned with the standards and went above and beyond for the students mastery. I did not have to make any modifications to my lesson during the teaching process.

Post 1 Lesson 1

Lesson

Reflection
Assessing Prior Knowledge: Students need prior knowledge on the technology. They would also need a basic understanding of adding and numbers. This prior knowledge will be assessed by asking students questions about numbers in lessons prior as well as adding.I will also have a session where students can play and figure out kidspiration. This information will be used to see if students need a review.
Planning Instruction: The content of this lesson should be taught at this grade level because this is the time where they start to learn about the scientific method when graphing is needed. They align perfectly with the standard across all areas. This lesson should be taught in the end of fall when the teacher knows where all the students are and prior to the scientific method.

Global awareness and digital-age communication

Some may think how are we globally a wear when we use the internet? Well we have to be a wear that everything  we post online could potentially be seen by every person in the world. When thinking about that realize who we know has access to the internet. That now means children of every age and of course future employers. In that case one should always think what if one of the two found something we may have wanted to be personal? Remember to keep this in mind when you post something on a place such as facebook because most often people can look you up and see everything you have posted. Just the same with this blog anyone can potentially view it. To think everyone in the world could be reading this very post. We must think before acting digitally. This is a very interesting article to read. Are we addicted to social media???

The second part of this post is the digital-age communication.  Most people has some sort of cell phone whether its be a cheap text and call only phone or a smartphone like mine. I can post on this blog from or even video chat on. Not to long ago you had to be at home or either a pay phone just to call someone. Yes I remember these days! Now we can be reached any time any where with these devices. Convenient at the same time are we becoming to relied on these devices. I know I tend to freak out when I am left with out my phone. It is my connection and life line to everyone in my life.  We have to remember that these devices still have effects on us even just being a phone. I know some times we all get important calls we have to answer or the not so important text. With that being said we need to be courteous with these devices at the same time. I have attached a video link of electronic devices below somethings maybe shocking to some.

Digital etiquette and responsible social interactions

What dies it mean to have digital etiquette and have responsible interactions??? Well "digital etiquette or netiquette as it is sometimes called, is a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you" (nisd.net). Basically internet manners, do we as adults and teacher follow this for ourselves? We need to remember we are the influence and modals for our students/ children. If you think about it who is someone who influences you or you thought highly of? Didn't you do things like them or copy them? If so you know what it is important for us to be responsible and act appropriate for our students/ children even if we don't think they see us. Point being everything on the internet is assessable to just about anyone.  As for the social interactions wouldn't we make sure that we act appropriate in front of students/ children and parents? Then why portray ourselves any way else on the internet? Well if this didn't get you thinking maybe this site will or help you further understand this subject.DIGITAL ETIQUETTE Till the next post,

Global Digital Citizen-Safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology

When I first received this topic I thought to myself well I remember signing those agreements almost every year after about fifth grade. At the time I thought "well this is ridiculous" however now that  am older and becoming a teacher I know this is something we have to require of our students. I know now that students and even adults make poor choices on the internet. Whether it be inappropriate use or just going to facebook when your in the middle of class. This may seem harmless however it takes time from important teaching time. This also puts children in possible dangers to. So what does one of this agreements include for all the parents and students out there I have included a copy of what the agreements intel. TECH AGREEMENT!!! These agreements are not made to restrict students they are maybe to protect them from the dangers of the internet. Remember that school is suppose to be a safe learning place for young minds.
Till my next post!!!
